Football markets and the maths of a low-scoring game
Football is the sport around which most betting lines are built, and its markets follow directly from one simple property of the game: goals are rare. A match can turn on a single moment, a third of matches in many competitions end level, and that scarcity shapes every price you will see. Whether Zodiac offers football betting, and how deep its line goes, is something to confirm in the operator's own lobby; this page explains how such a line works wherever you meet it.
The 1X2 market and why the draw matters
The classic match result market has three outcomes: home win (1), draw (X) and away win (2). Because the draw is a genuine third result, the bookmaker spreads its margin over three prices instead of two, and the sum of implied probabilities is usually higher than in a two-way market. A quick check: divide 1 by each price and add the results. Anything above 100 % is the margin. Double chance markets (1X, X2, 12) merge two outcomes into one bet, trading a lower price for a higher hit rate.
Handicaps: European and Asian
A handicap gives one team a virtual head start to balance a lopsided match. The European version keeps three outcomes, including a "handicap draw". The Asian version removes the draw entirely. On a half-goal line, such as −0.5, the bet can only win or lose. On a whole-goal line, such as −1, an exact one-goal win returns your stake. Quarter lines like −0.75 split your stake across the two neighbouring lines, so half can win while the other half is refunded.
| Line on the favourite | Wins by 1 | Wins by 2+ | Draw or loss |
|---|---|---|---|
| −0.5 | Win | Win | Lose |
| −1 | Stake returned | Win | Lose |
| −0.75 | Half win, half returned | Win | Lose |
| −1.5 | Lose | Win | Lose |
Goal totals, both teams to score and corners
Totals markets ask how many goals the match produces, most often around a line of 2.5. Both teams to score splits matches by whether each side finds the net at least once. Corner and card markets react to playing style rather than finishing quality, which is why their prices move in a different rhythm. Player props such as anytime scorer usually carry larger margins because they are harder to price.
Live football: the clock is part of the price
In-play, every minute without a goal pushes the under side shorter and the draw closer. Prices freeze around penalties, free kicks near the box and video reviews. Since the operator's data feed reaches the system before any broadcast reaches you, chasing a goal you just saw on screen rarely works. Decide your maximum stake for the match before kick-off and leave cash-out decisions to a rule you set in advance. More on singles versus accumulators is on the bet types page, and the general mechanics are in the betting overview.
